Future Plans for Growth

LaSalle College Vancouver’s vision is to be western Canada’s leading provider of design education.  This vision will be achieved by the following:

Academic growth:

  • To apply for granting of consent to offer new programs congruent with the emerging needs of the design industry and the BCJobsPlan

Student Services:

  • To create a Student Council
  • To create a student learning centre
  • To implement peer mentorship

Faculty and research:

  • To recruit and maintain a full-time faculty consistent with program and student enrollment growth
  • To offer faculty research-based professional development activities
  • To maintain faculty peer reviewed professional development fund
Mobility and International Cooperation
  • To promote international mobility and global citizenship through faculty exchanges and visiting scholar opportunities
  • To engage in collaboration in learning within the LCI network

Industry and community involvement:

  • Design sector associations  – e.g. International Textile and Apparel Association, Canadian Apparel Federation and Apparel Connexion
  • Collaborations with local schools – e.g. Spring 2016, LCV fashion design students collaborated with students of Sarah McLachlan School of Music and Nimbus School of Recording & Media to present Fashion Rhythm 2016 at Vancouver Fashion Week
  • Participate in design industry initiatives  - e.g. in 2015/16 participating in Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) Sector (apparel) Engagement Project funded through the Canada – BC Labour Development Agreement, assisted in researching bringing the annual Montreal Fashion Festival, Sensation Mode, to Vancouver for June 2017          
  • Participate in design competitions: e.g. student won Graphic Design Competition: Applied Arts Magazine Award 2013, entered students in the national Telio fashion design competitions and 2016 Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards (CAFA) competition
  • Participate in Yaletown Community Association, I Love Yaletown summer event
  • Host events – e.g. hosted Interior Designers’ Institute BC (IDIBC) educators annual meeting in February 2016, assisting with the International Textile and Apparel Association annual conference coming to Vancouver in November, 2016, hosting the Canadian Apparel Affinity Group of educators annual meeting in spring 2018.
