COVID-19 Update

Important message from the President of LaSalle College Vancouver

March 13, 2020

LCV Community,

We are facing an unprecedented global event and we have been vigilant in our planning to ensure the safety of our students and staff.  In addition to your safety, our second priority is the ability to continue our programs in a manner that is safe for all involved.  At this stage, we have no suspected or confirmed cases of COVID -19 at LCV.

Here are a few updates:

Building
The building will remain open for student and staff access unless we are directed by federal or provincial governments to close our facility.  The other scenario in which we would close is for safety or for planning reasons. We will communicate any closures on all our media and communication channels.   We started extra cleaning two weeks ago and continue to clean all touch points three times per day.  You can do your part by continuing to wash your hands regularly.

Travelling
The provincial government requires a 14 day self-quarantine for anyone who travelled outside the country. This applies to our staff and students.  Please do not conceal your travel plans as it could put others in danger.

Winter Term
We are making every effort to minimize impact on the Winter Term.  We may move some classes online as early as next week.  Instructors and Academic Leaders will communicate to those impacted.

Spring Term
We are making plans to put as much of our learning online for Spring 2020.   There may be some rescheduling required or some compressed lab time on campus.  Please be patient as we map out the impact for each program, student and faculty member.   Training will be provided for our faculty.

Employees working from home
We have piloted some work from home with several employees on March 12 and we will continue this approach to limit interpersonal contact. Employees will be accessible by phone, email, and video chat.

Mental Health
It is common to feel stress during uncertain times.  We will continue our mental health services for our students with Hema and Adler University.  Our employees can also access mental health supports through Talent and Culture.

LCV is a special place and I'm so proud at how so many of you have responded to this situation.  Let's continue to be vigilant and most importantly, let's continue to show kindness and compassion to others as we all adapt to a new reality.

Regards,

Jason Dewling
