On March 25, William F. White, the largest film production equipment rental house in Vancouver, brought in a “TechnoDolly,” which is a full-sized motion-control crane to our soundstage for demonstration. The MEDO works in conjuction with a Fusion Camera system, which is a stereoscopic 3D camera system developed by award winning Director James Cameron.

We were also honored to have Lee Buckley as the guest speaker to demonstrate how to utilize this specialty camera system. Lee came from a specialty camera movement background and has found a unique way of developing motion capture and control within a fast paced TV environment or a large budget feature, whether out in the forest, on top of a glacier or in the warmth of a studio.”

During the session, some lucky students acted as Lee’s camera assistants and operated this industry leading machine - TechnoDolly. Lee also brought Sasha, one of the best from his team to share their working knowledge in film, stories in their career, as well as some secrets and know-hows to break into the current film & television industry. They provided so many useful tips and priceless advice to encourage our students.

“This is truly an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all our students. Not only do they have the chance to try this million-dollar specialty equipment that is widely used in today’s Hollywood films and TV shows, they also have the chance to network and learn from two of the best industry professionals about what it is like to be working ON SET ” … says Instructor Susanne Tabata.

After the demonstration, students from Digital Film & Video program also had a hand-on practice with TechnoDolly and filmed a little short clip with Lee’s guidance. Students from VFX for Film & Television program will conduct post-editing with visual effect. The end result will be shared on our website and social media, so stay tuned!!

We would like to give a special thanks to our equipment sponsor William F. White Specialty Equipment and Fusion Cine, as well as instructor Susane Tabata, William Maher and everyone who helped and contribute to make this happen.
