Last week was the opening gala for Vancouver Fashion Week. To kick things off each year VFW awards Vancouver’s fashion industry in the categories of Designer, Hair/ Makeup Artist, Retailer, Stylist, Educator, Wholesaler/ Distributor, and Innovator.
LCV Fashion Program Director Katherine Soucie of Sans Soucie was nominated in the category for Designers.
In the educator category Shanin Huda and Mary Boni were both up for this competitive award.
LaSalle College Vancouver board member Mary Boni was crowned the winner and was presented this prestigious award by Justine Higgs, External Relations and Events Coordinator. As Justine said Mary’s dedication to Fashion Design education and the industry has truly been monumental. She is always in contact with industry to find out what their needs are so that the students can begin rewarding careers in the fashion industry. She has helped guide many of the names we see in Vancouver fashion today – Tara Zeidler, Matthew Burwell, Christi Lohr, Amy Herndon, Adam Lin-Bungag, and the list goes on. She was the driving force for creating the very first fashion design degree in British Columbia. With over 40 years in education she has not only been an amazing teacher, fashion program department head, associate dean, and her current role as board member at LaSalle College Vancouver.
