The Magic of Visual Effects

The VFX for Film and Television Diploma program at LaSalle College Vancouver prepares students for employment in the post-production industry for film and television as VFX artists and technicians, as well as in the game and animation industries. Our students build a foundation of traditional artistic skill, a solid knowledge base in film and VFX theories and principles through hands-on training in multiple applications and tools, including compositing and digital film production techniques.

New campus opening in 2024

LaSalle College Vancouver will be moving into a new purpose-built education centre that puts technology, active learning, and social engagement at the forefront.

This program consists of 105 credits over 7 quarters.

Diploma

This program has been approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (“PTIB”) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

Each three-month quarter consists of tightly integrated, cohesive courses which are designed to help students meet industry-driven competencies and outcomes. The curriculum allows students to build a professional demo reel and other marketing pieces.

As technology and software are continually evolving, training is designed to prepare students to be diagnostic in their study, to problem solve and develop work ethics and standards. The program teaches students to communicate ideas effectively, as well as work in a collaborative environment through team-based projects using professional-grade HD video technology and computer equipment, as students learn to grab the attention of an audience that is growing more sophisticated every day.

  • To apply learned concepts from foundation level design courses – VFX design principles and terminology, research, critical analysis, prototyping, as well as scripting and art.
  • Technical knowledge of scripting, design tools and software in accordance with current industry standards.
  • Practical understanding and application of the principles of visual effects production, including: 3D computer animation, surfacing, lighting and compositing.
  • Professionalism through conceptualizing, planning, executing, and delivering quality VFX design projects that lead toward a self-promotion package.
