LaSalle College Vancouver’s Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts students entered into the annual Hyatt Regency Gingerbread Lane competition in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Our students took a humorous twist on this festive tradition with their entry titled “The Morning After Christmas”. The students worked for 9-12 days and put approximately 35 hours each on the project. Some of the different techniques used to create this showpiece included making gingerbread, working with fondant, blowing pouring and pulling sugar, as well as lots and lots of piping.

These year the students were all in their first quarter and had no previous experience, however they all rose to the occasion and conquered this project, taking a well deserved 3rd place in the competition.

You can even see Santa relaxing in the hot tub after a very busy day!

In addition to the prizes awarded by the jury, there is also a People’s Choice Award which is open to the public vote. If you are downtown go check out the gingerbread house lane and don't forget to vote for your favorite!

Special congratulations go to our Baking and Pastry Arts students Maria Villar, Olivia Wiethüchter, Chiragh Amin and Hannah Cortez, and a big thank you to LCV alumnus Jill Taylor, and Chef instructor Mandy Vial.
